The Award-winning HBO series <em>I May Destroy You<\/em> was created, produced, and directed by Coel\u2013\u2013and it deserves all of the acclaim.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>I May Destroy You<\/em> follows Arabella, played by Coel, a young writer who is grappling with the aftermath of being raped. The series is loosely based on Coel\u2019s personal experience of being sexually assaulted in 2016, which aids in the series\u2019 success with painting a realistic picture of both the trauma and healing journey for survivors. The show brilliantly tackles the subject of consent, and still manages to weave humor and wit into each episode.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.hulu.com\/user\/v3\/artwork\/49c889a5-198c-40ed-b75f-bb827b1b9e4f?base_image_bucket_name=image_manager&amp;base_image=cfa6f8f6-2126-4521-87df-69cccc63e044&amp;region=US&amp;format=jpeg&amp;size=952x536\" alt=\"Watch I May Destroy You Streaming Online | Hulu (Free Trial)\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>During her compelling Emmy speech, Coel encouraged prospective writers to write about what makes them uneasy. \u201cWrite the tale that scares you, that makes you feel uncertain, that isn\u2019t comfortable,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cI dare you \u2014 in a world that entices us to browse through the lives of others to help us better determine how we feel about ourselves, and to in turn feel the need to be constantly visible, for visibility these days seems to somehow equate to success \u2014 do not be afraid to disappear from it, from us for a while, and see what comes to you in the silence. I dedicate this story to every single survivor of sexual assault.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>This is Coel\u2019s first Emmy.
