Kahiu will also direct the series.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>\u201c<\/b><b><i>Wild Seed<\/i><\/b><b> is a book that shifted my life,\u201d said Davis. \u201cIt is as epic, as game changing, as moving and brilliant as any Science Fiction novel ever written. Julius and I are proud to have this masterpiece in our hands. It full\ufb01lls our promise and legacy to be disrupters. Octavia Butler was a visionary and we look forward to honoring the scope of her work and sharing it with the world.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Although JuVee Productions have acquired the rights to the novel for more than two years, identifying Wanuri Kahiu as a co-writer and director for the project is how the vision for the series<\/b> <b>truly came to fruition. \u00a0Both Kahiu and Okorafor have stated that the trajectory of their careers was influenced by reading <\/b><b><i>Wild Seed<\/i><\/b><b>, as they were deeply inspired by Butler being a voice for women of color in science fiction. \u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>The two friends also describe themselves as \u201cAfricanfuturists.\u201d Kahiu refers to her unique filmmaking style as <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ted.com\/talks\/wanuri_kahiu_fun_fierce_and_fantastical_african_art?language=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>AfroBubbleGum<\/b><\/a><b> art, which is African art that\u2019s \u201cvibrant lighthearted, and without a political agenda.\u201d \u00a0Considering the fact that Kahiu and Okorafor have quite a lot in common, we\u2019re even more thrilled to see them join forces and watch this concept come to life.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Recently, Kahiu\u2019s LGBTQ feature film <\/b><b><i>Rafiki<\/i><\/b><b> debuted at<\/b><b><i> Cannes <\/i><\/b><b>making it the first Kenyan film to ever screen at the festival. Although it was banned in Kenya, Rafiki was selected at a multitude of international festivals following its success at <\/b><b><i>Cannes<\/i><\/b><b>. <\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Okorafor\u2019s acclaimed novel <\/b><b><i>Who Fears Death<\/i><\/b><b> is currently in development at HBO and is being produced by <\/b><b><i>Game of Thrones<\/i><\/b><b>\u2019 George R. R. Martin. <\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>\u201cWe love Octavia Butler and her work, and have for decades. But <\/b><b><i>Wild Seed<\/i><\/b><b> is our favorite.
