Tomi Adeyemi\u2019s celebrated young adult novel <\/b>Children of Blood and Bone<\/i><\/b> will soon be adapted into an action fantasy film by Fox 2000 and director Rick Famuyiwa, <\/b>THR<\/b><\/a> reports. <\/b><\/p>\n Children of Blood and Bone<\/i><\/b> is Famuyiwa\u2019s first fantasy movie. The Nigerian-American filmmaker is generally known for directing comedy and romance films, including <\/b>Dope<\/i><\/b>, <\/b>The Wood<\/i><\/b>, and <\/b>Brown Sugar<\/i><\/b>. Yet there\u2019s always a connecting theme within Famuyiwa\u2019s films, which is to document the Black experience in diverse ways. With <\/b>Children of Blood and Bone<\/i><\/b>, the gifted director will dive into fantastical West African worlds, which has the potential of bringing an audience together in ways similar to how <\/b>Black Panther\u2019s<\/i><\/b> fictional world of Wakanda does.<\/b><\/p>\n Set in the kingdom of Orisha, the novel follows a young woman named Zelie Adebola who witnesses the death of her mother and other magicians following the order of a cold-blooded king. Zelie has an opportunity to bring magic back to her land, but it is through a journey that includes teaming up with a villainous princess, outsmarting a prince, and avoiding evil spirits that lurk in the waters. \u201c<\/b>They killed my mother. They took our magic. They tried to bury us. Now we rise,\u201d reads the book\u2019s synopsis. <\/b><\/p>\n David Magee, known for <\/b>Life of Pi<\/i><\/b> and<\/b> Mary Poppins Returns<\/i><\/b>, penned the script for the film. <\/b><\/p>\n Children of Blood and Bone<\/i><\/b> is the first book in Adeyemi\u2019s <\/b>Legacy of Orisha <\/i><\/b>series. The follow-up,<\/b> Children of Virtue and Vengeance<\/i><\/b>, is set to be released on June 4th of this year.<\/b><\/p>\n
