Lee, who was considered a real-life superhero to comic book fans worldwide, often wrote characters that included racial and gender diversity. Following his death, a column that Lee penned in 1968 has once again gone viral, as it denounces racism and bigotry\u2013\u2013two issues that we are heavily facing today in Trump era. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>As part of \u201cStan\u2019s Soapbox\u201d segments, Lee stated that bigotry and racism were \u201camong the deadliest social ills plaguing the world today.\u201d He noted that unlike super-villains, these evils cannot be destroyed with a zap from a ray gun, or a punch in the nose. \u201cThe only way to destroy them is to expose them \u2013\u2013 to reveal them for the insidious evils they really are,\u201d said Lee. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Stan Lee leaves behind a complicated legacy. He brought joy to the world while causing pain to the little guy behind-the-scenes. Bigotry and racism are among the deadliest social ills plaguing the world today. But, unlike a team of costumed super-villains, they can\u2019t be halted with a punch in the snoot, or a zap from a ray gun. The only way to destroy them is to expose them \u2014 to reveal them for the insidious evils they really are. The bigot is an unreasoning hater \u2014 one who hates blindly, fanatically, indiscriminately. If his hang-up is black men, he hates ALL black men. If a redhead once offended him, he hates ALL redheads. If some foreigner beat him to a job, he\u2019s down on ALL foreigners. He hates people he\u2019s never seen \u2014 people he\u2019s never known \u2014 with equal intensity \u2014 with equal venom.<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>\u201cNow, we\u2019re not trying to say it\u2019s unreasonable for one human being to bug another. But, although anyone has the right to dislike another individual, it\u2019s totally irrational, patently insane to condemn an entire race \u2014 to despise an entire nation \u2014 to vilify an entire religion. Sooner or later, we must learn to judge each other on our own merits. Sooner or later, if man is ever to be worthy of his destiny, we must fill our hearts with tolerance.
