To celebrate what would have been Prince\u2019s 60th birthday, the Prince Estate and Warner Bros. have announced the release of a live album recorded by the legendary artist back in 1983. <\/span><\/p>\n

Titled <\/span>Piano & A Microphone,<\/span><\/i> the album features nine tracks that were privately recorded at Prince\u2019s home studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota. Noteworthy songs from the 35-minute project include a cover of Joni Mitchell\u2019s \u201cA Case of You,\u201d an early version of the then-unreleased classic \u201cPurple Rain,\u201d and a rare recording of the historical African-American Spiritual \u201cMary Don\u2019t You Weep,\u201d which will also be featured on the soundtrack of Spike Lee\u2019s upcoming BlacKkKlansman film. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis raw, intimate recording, which took place at the start of Prince\u2019s career right before he achieved international stardom, is similar in format to the <\/span>Piano & A Microphone Tour<\/span><\/i> that he ended his career with in 2016,\u201d Prince Estate entertainment advisor Troy Carter said in a <\/span>statement<\/span><\/a>. \u201cThe Estate is excited to be able to give fans a glimpse of his evolution and show how his career ultimately came full circle with just him and his piano.\u201d \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This won\u2019t be the last time that unreleased music by the late icon will be brought to the public\u2019s eye. In addition to <\/span>Microphone<\/span><\/i>, the Prince Estate has partnered with <\/span>Tidal and Jay-Z<\/span><\/a> to release a full-length Prince album in 2019 that will honor the artist\u2019s enduring legacy. <\/span><\/p>\n

Prince\u2019s <\/span>Piano and A Microphone<\/span><\/i> will be released this fall on September 21st, and is available for pre-order<\/a> now.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
