In his first lead role, <em>Get Out\u2019s <\/em>Lakeith Stanfield stars in the upcoming genre-bending film <em>Sorry to Bother You<\/em>. Mixed with science fiction, satire, and just pure outrageousness, the Sundance hit is considered to be \u201cwildly inventive.\u201d In the newly released trailer, we\u2019re given a brief look at the unorthodox storyline.<\/p>\n<p>Set in an alternate present-day reality of Oakland, struggling telemarketer Cassius Green (Lakeith Stanfield) discovers the magical key to professional success\u2014using his \u201cwhite voice\u201d\u2014which, in turn, thrusts him into a grim, macabre universe. Strictly based on the film\u2019s synopsis, I find myself making comparisons to the social thriller <em>Get Out<\/em>, where Green now resides in \u201cthe sunken place,\u201d which in this case is an alternate universe rather than a metaphorical black hole.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, however, the trailer for <em>Sorry to Bother You<\/em> is less grim and far more hilarious and vibrant than <em>Get Out<\/em>\u2019s largely unsettling tone. Will the film prove to be darker than its trailer portrays, more satirical, or a brilliant mixture of both? We don\u2019t have the slightest clue about what we\u2019re actually in for, and that\u2019s the fun part. Regardless, <em>Sorry to Bother You<\/em> has sparked immense curiosity because it\u2019s offbeat, bizarre, and refreshingly original.<\/p>\n<p>Directed by Boots Riley and produced by\u00a0Annapurna Pictures<em>, Sorry to Bother You<\/em> stars Lakeith Stanfield, Tessa Thompson, Danny Glover, Terry Crews, Omari Hardwick, Jermaine Fowler, and Steven Yeun.
